And yet another week ...

goes by with Keith once again holding the Cigar.  Keith was nothing if not steady throughout the match.  He made it through the front 9 without a single triple, and his 2 double bogeys were offset by 3 pars.  On the back, he shot a near record low--shooting a 42.  He started the back 9 off with a birdie..the first birdie I ever remember being shot on #10.  He went on to par 4 of the next 5 holes and only had one triple.  Keith never really found any real trouble on the course, forcing everyone else to take some risky chances in an effort to catch up.

Chris started off the day with a triple--not what he intended.  He did manage to only triple one other hole, the 8th, but was only offset by one par.  He did go on a nice roll of bogeys, with 5 out of 6 holes.  On the back Chris rolled in 3 pars, but offset those with 2 doubles and a triple. Chris had a little trouble with the driver, but no real problems.  He did vanquish his nemesis, #5, and #15, which he parred.  Any other day, Chris might have won the cigar with being +1 on those 2 holes.

Bob played consistently.  His biggest problem was leaving putts short, though he made a lot of the second putts.  Had he not been putting well, Bob probably would have shot a 105.  He blew up on #6, trying to cut the corner, only to spray the ball in the woods.  On #7, he found the woods again, costing him yet another shot.  Despite finding the woods again on #8, he did post a bogey, which was his best score in a while.

Bob's game went downhill on #15, yet again.  In reality, it went sound on #14 when, from 200 yards out, he screwed up an easy 3 wood into the green.  He still escaped with a bogey but on #15, lost a ball in the woods and never recovered.  Likewise, on #16, he found trouble.

Dale had some of his best holes in a while.  Dale got off to his typical slow start, despite a pretty gooddrive on #1.  He tripled 3 of the first 5 holes.  He did manage to bogey and part the other two holes, ad from #6 to #9 he went double, par, bogey, and bogey, would a realistic birdie putt on 8, and two par putts on 8 and 9.

Unfortunately, Dale continued with his streak of playing the back 9 worse than the front.   I think it is a mental thing.  Dale hung in there though and did mange to par #14.  Dale has the skills..he needs some practice.  And practice swings.

Bob broke in a new lob wedge.  He liked it and thought it worked out well for him.  He hit it on the last hole, just messing around, and it probably cost him a stroke but the match was over at that point.

Bob's new putter came in on Tuesday.  Yep, a new putter.  Watch out!  He traded in a club or two and ended up with a club or two.  Or two?  Well it was cheap and why not!

Bob also hit the driving range on Wednesday night and though it got dark, he thinks he hit the ball well.  Only time will tell.

  1. Just curious.....How did the matches go the last two weeks? Was Bob or Chris able to take home the cigar? Where's the up-date?
